Settling in South Dakota was a return home for Drs. Spoo and Hardy. Both of their mothers were born and raised in South Dakota with family histories reaching back prior to the time of statehood. Dr. Spoo’s ancestors were early settlers in Bon Homme County, his grandfather served on the crew that constructed the Fort Randall Dam, while Dr. Hardy’s family settled in Deuel County and were key figures in the history of the community of Clear Lake. Drs. Spoo and Hardy knew very early in life that they wanted to be veterinarians. Both took vastly different courses across the country, and through the profession, before deciding to return to their family’s ancestral home in the great state of South Dakota bringing specialized veterinary care to the Dakota prairies.
